The first settlement in the Valley of Belice populations is to tie the birth of Selinunte, ancient colony of Magna Greece, founded by Megarians in the 7th century BC. In ancient Selinus, oil was considered a symbol of peace, wisdom and prosperity in relation to multiple uses that was intended. The Selinuntini cultivated and propagated the oil settling the valleys and fertile land in the hinterland, as evidenced by the grinders for olives date back to the 5th century BC.
So, as told by Pliny Selinus, became a benchmark in trade of Magna Greece and the Mediterranean, thanks to its powerful commercial fleet and the nature of foodstuffs: wine, cereals and oil. The olive tree in years remained the primary culture of the Valley of Belice, is demonstrating its presence as culture typical of Casagrande in 1600. Historical research shows that as early as 1700 it intensely cultivated olive. Today as yesterday, the territory remains inextricably tied to this particular cultivar.
In October begins the olive harvest, a slow hand. The olives are carefully chosen and gathered Greens completely, even today in our country the modern machinery did not have access. The selection is thorough, and completely green olives are chosen to ensure the excellence of the final product.
